Week 7

This week was an interesting week! Last week I was able to finalize my research for Fannie Barrier Williams, which Lori sent off to her superiors. I think she liked the sources I was able to gather and she said the committee was very happy that one of the women was completed. This week, my research shifted to the labor movement and how the African American women’s suffrage movement was related to that. For that topic, I was able to find a great amount of information through primary sources. Knowing about the divide between black and white labor, I was fascinated when I read sources from the African American women’s perspective. I began my research with the Women’s Trade Union and dove deeper from there. I also started researching Agnes Nestor, who seems to be a fascinating figure for the African American community. Along with starting these new research projects, I am also continuing my search for addresses to pin down the suffrage work of these amazing African American women. I like that Lori is continuously giving me new projects to work on that all pertain to the same overhead topic, but look at the different sectors of them. This week at lunch we had a tremendous conversation about costume history and how it all works at the Evanston History Center, which I found to be very interesting. Next week is spring break, so I will not be attending my internship, but I hope to dive right back in the following week.
